Horses are among the most magnificent creatures on this planet. They are intelligent, sensible, and trustful when they are correctly guided. The real methods associated with equitation last a long period of time and ask for a lot of effort, but the reward is to acknowledge their efficiency.
In the case of natural equitation, horses are encouraged to be in direct contact with their riders in the same way in which they would be in contact with another horse. Horses are better taught through methods which use reward and consolidation rather than fear and pain. The rider is a partner and also l a friend and the horse has to work with him, not against him. When a strong bound has been created the techniques used to train the horse can become unlimited.

Archeological sites and DNA collected from old horse remains alike prove that prior to 3500 BC the horse was tamed. Throughout human history, it has accompanied man in warfare, hunting, as a conveyance or as some vital farming help.
However, at present you could hardly see any horses in other battles than filmed ones, or horse-drawn carriages other than in movies, or for the British queen. Separate horses are still used, though, by mounted police, forest rangers or in wilderness areas, usually because of the rugged terrain that is unsuited for vehicles. Nonetheless, the most popular uses of horses nowadays are in racing, pleasure riding or on cattle ranches. In the last case, they are indispensable for managing the cattle spread over large rugged areas. So it happens that in the US alone there are presently some 9,500,000 horses.

Horses are almost as good as us when it comes to breaking records. While their life span is of 25-30 years, a 19th century horse is known to have lived 62 years. At the same time, while draft horses could reach a height of 183 cm and a weight of 1,000 kg, again a 19th century horse was 220 cm high, weighting also 1,500 kg. And though their galloping speed is on average 48 km an hour, a horse succeeded to be as fast as 88 km an hour (of course, on a short distance).
