Horse care is one of the several responsibilities a horse owner must be able to provide. This is very important in ensuring the horses optimal health and long life. Several aspects must be considered in taking care of a horse including age, breed, activity level, season and underlying health issues.
Horses must have enough exercise everyday to satisfy its physical needs. Horses kept in stables may develop stable vices. Stable vices are bad habits developed as a result of being confined with insufficient exercise, if they are not given work or turnout. Examples of stable vices are wood chewing, biting, wall kicking, pawing or digging.

Did you know that your horses ears can save your life? As horses cannot speak, they communicate through their body parts, such as their ears. If you know these body signals, you will know when you will be attacked by your horse, thus, saving you from getting kicked or bitten. A horses kick is very strong and can cause for you to acquire serious injuries.
By nature, horses are very observant animals because they are prey animals. Since they always fear for their lives, they must be aware of their surroundings at all times. Because of this, they have developed the fight-or-flight instinct that works very well in saving their lives.

Owning a horse is by no means cheap. It is associated with a lot if expenses and a lot of responsibilities. Continuous care and attention and boarding your horse are examples of the responsibilities you will be facing when you decide to buy a horse. You can board your horse either by paying only for the stall and do the necessary work or pay for a full boarding.

There is more to owning a horse than just buying it. Horse ownership is a big responsibility and you cannot take it lightly. Horses need continuous attention, care and exercise, which sometimes you have to spend your money on. Other things should also be considered before you take such responsibility.
When buying a horse, determine first your goal, or what you want and what you want to do. This will help you estimate the budget for owning and taking care of the horse. What do you want a horse for? Is it for trail riding, performing, horse showing, etc.?
