Horse riding, sometimes called horseback riding, refers to the practice of riding or driving horses. It can be a sport, hobby, therapy or work, by which a rider aims to sit on a horse and be able to control it as it moves along. Horse riding is also known as horseback riding and is sometimes referred to as equestrianism, though equestrianism actually means the skill of riding or driving horses.

Equestrian tack, which is also called horse tack, is any equipment and accessories that is worn by a horse that is domesticated. Saddles, bridles, bits, stirrups, halters, driving harness, reins, martingales and breastplates are equestrian tacks. Equestrian tacks are found or bought in a saddlery, which carries supplies for riders and horses. The words tacking up refer to equipping of horse with tack, such as grooming and putting on the riding equipment.

Snaffle bit is one of the most common types of bit, which is that part of the bridle that goes in the mouth of the horse. A bridle consists of a bit, reins and headstall that holds the bit. It is used by riders to direct the horse when horse riding. Snaffle bits, curb bits and pelham bits are examples of bit used on horses.
