Horse Riding ” 5 Important Guidelines to Know Before You Start

by Lisa Blackstone

Horse riding, sometimes called horseback riding, refers to the practice of riding or driving horses. It can be a sport, hobby, therapy or work, by which a rider aims to sit on a horse and be able to control it as it moves along. Horse riding is also known as horseback riding and is sometimes referred to as equestrianism, though equestrianism actually means the skill of riding or driving horses.

Horses and riders achieve different skills through training. Horses are trained and ridden for different purposes. These purposes can be for controlling herd animals on a ranch, police works, competitive sports, therapeutic purposes, and recreational riding. Riding a horse is hard to learn so here are some guidelines to assist you in attaining your goals.

First, you got to know and find the horse thats right for you. You might not know it but horses, like humans, have different characteristics too. They have different breeds, talents, colors and sizes. And for this, you must choose a horse that will suit your characteristics.

Choose a horse that will not make your horseback riding difficult. Make sure you understand your horses characteristics. Horses can be trained but they have traits that you just cannot change such as their being sensitive or temperamental. These characteristics will be hindrances to your learning progress.

Do not just choose a horse because you like its breed or you think it is beautiful. Remember that you will be with your horse for a long time. If you cannot manage your horse then it will be difficult for you to learn to ride. You will also be having a difficulty training it.

Second, really know your horse because it is not a human, so it does not think, see, smell, hear or reason like you. Identify your horses behavior, instincts as well as its natural reaction to its surroundings. This is very important because you can get into precarious situations only because you lack the knowledge to know better. Knowing your horse will ensure your safety on and off the ground and your horses safety as well.

Third, listen to your instructor and learn. You get an instructor because you do not know how to handle or ride a horse and you want to learn those things. Therefore, you have to trust your instructor. It is your instructor who will train you how to handle a horse in all situations so that you and your horse do not get hurt. Learning to ride a horse is not easy, but keep trying to do what the instructor is telling you.

If you want to enhance your horse riding skill, then you can learn from the professionals. These are the people who have been in your place and who have a lot of experiences to share and which you can learn from. Ask them how you can learn fast or what to do in unexpected circumstances. You can even just watch them when theyre horse riding and learn.

Finally, you must have a goal that is realistic and attainable. Start by achieving that union with your horse. Do not mind other people and pursue excellence within yourself. Mistakes are normal, you should learn from them.
