Choosing the Right Equestrian Apparel

by Elias Maseko

If you love riding or you just want to have the equestrian look, then equestrian dress is for you. When choosing their clothing options, the horse rider will seek both function and style as they need comfort as well as a graceful feeling all at once. You should always pick a light cloth that allows for simple movement but can stand up to wear and tear.

Equestrian dress is most commonly made of cotton and Lycra materials which draw moisture away from the skin. This proficient fabric functions well in a range of temperatures. In warmer times, the cloth keeps temperature low by permitting perspiration, while when colder it keeps warm by keeping sweat away from your body so you stay dry.

Since moisture does not penetrate the cloth weave, it evaporates quickly, causing the material to dry quickly as well. As an added bonus, you can choose materials and cloth weaves that reduce moisture absorption, repel UV rays and insects - so what pieces of clothing make up equestrian garments?

The basic piece is a shirt, usually made of cotton or wool crepe, and is usually white and then you can add a waistcoat or vest to match. For the lower body, breeches and jodhpurs are the more popular pieces although some prefer full-seat horse riding breeches, there are still those who like jeans and jodhpurs.

Ensure the piece fits you and pick one out that protects from bad weather. Don’t forget the matching riding gloves! While tall horseback riding boots look perfect for shows and competitions, short boots with trouser socks are a wise alternative during training or ordinary days. To carry off the look you will need a horse riding jacket in a luxurious tweed. Attention to details such as a silk lining or double satin piping and trim is a must.

Helmets are the typical piece of head gear since they have easy-fit systems in use, but there are some who prefer to wear black top hats instead. Today’s trend for equestrian helmets is toward a softer color, like the pastels of blue, green or pink, but some riders like to adorn them with decals or crystals. The identical goes for show breeches with light tans although white remains popular. Equine apparel show coats and dressage coats can be any color. Brighter shades of brown and khaki are very common garment colors, but trendier apparel lean more toward the darker shades of navy or even black. Coats are available in plain solid colors or in a variety of stripes and patterns.

Tall leather boots that have a zip fastener are a lot more popular for shows and if they have zippers on the back they are a lot easier to take off but if you really into training, half chaps and paddock boots are still popular because of their reliability. Finding equestrian dress that is perfectly suited to you should be simple, with the vast array of fashionable, stylish dress available today.
