What to do before going to Ascot: Ascot is positioned in Berkshire, which is just over a 30 mile journey from Central London. If you are travelling by road, Ascot is very close by to the M3, M4,M40 and M25 motorways , making it an easy route from any direction. There is parking available in and around the racecourse area, all varying in prices depending on vehicle size and proximity to the Racecourse. If travelling by rail then Ascot Railway Station is a 7 minute walk from the racecourse, with regular services through out the day. I recommend that you leave early to arrive in Ascot due to the increase of traffic going into the area, this will avoid disappointment and ensure you have a full day at the races.
When choosing your transport, for example a minibus or coach you should consider various factors that will make your journey more safe and comfortable for your group. Factors include: Looking around for the best company for you, getting quotes from different companies to get the best price and service. It is important when looking for a minibus or coach company, that they are VOSA (Vehicle and Operator Services Agency) Licensed. This means all vehicles are checked to be road worthy and the company adheres to all necessary rules and requirements for minibus or coach hire etc. You also will need to think about whether you would like to hire a minibus or coach with or without a driver. It’s also important to work out how long your journey will take and the time you want to arrive at the Racecourse and to arrange your transport to those time scale
Wearing Smart / formal clothes to a Ascot Race day is advised. Most people will wear very smart clothes, dresses, skirts and shirt or suits, shirts and ties. It is not officially a formal dress code, however racegoers have adopted a rather formal attitude to the event. ladies especially are quite competitive in there dress wear, resulting in many wearing big glamorous hats. Some people however make it a more fun eventby dressing up in costume this is also approved by organisers however you should be cautious with the costume so that it doesn’t offend anyone at the event.
If you prefer to bring your own food to the Racecourse then that is fine, provided you eat in the picnic areas in the facility. This will cut down your costs of the day and also provide you with what you want. On the other hand if you would rather not fuss with organising a packed lunch then there are many food vendors available from noodles to sandwiches . If you are willing to part with a few more pounds then there is a sit down restaurant which provides a wide selection of food on a extensive menu this is charged by head and is roughly 30 pounds depending on how many courses you have etc.
From personal experience there tends to be long queues for getting money out of the cash machines at the racecourse due to there being only 2 fixed money machines available. Taking along money for the day is advisable and avoids any problems with queuing Please take care if you plan to bring big amounts of cash.
Bringing children to Ascot may seem like a worry , as they may not find watching the races etc as fun as adults. However no need to worry as the organisers for the event have made sure that everyone, young or old can have a great enjoyable day. Entertainment at the Location are extensive and vary each year, previous years have included live music performances, fairground rides and face painting facilities.
Once you are all prepared, attending Ascot Racecourse will be a great day out for all! Don’t forget your camera!
I can recommend that on day trips to the races minibus hire or coach hire is a much easier way to travel.
