Horse Rugs: The Types And Purposes
Posted by Terra Taylor at Jun 5th, 2010 in Horses
Numerous kinds of horse rugs are available with a variety of different uses. Some rugs are for when a horse is working, some when it is not being ridden, rugs for use inside, rugs for use outside, lightweight rugs, waterproof rugs, heavyweight rugs. The use of the rug determines its weight, materials used, thickness and other properties.
Although the majority of horse rugs are made to be worn when a horse is resting, there are some that are made for when an animal is being ridden or worked. Cushioning under a saddle and warmth may be provided by a saddle blanket. In cooler months when extra warmth is used, this can be substituted with a quarter sheet which extends to cover the rump of the horse too.
